New Year and Another Missed Workout

Well Happy New Year! It's 2012 and I had thought I might try to get back into the gym today. My car has other ideas, though. I had my oil changed at Express Oil Change and whatever they did under there caused the 'Check Engine' light to come on. It hasn't gone off despite my best efforts and I can't find what's causing it to be on in the first place, so today during my lunch hour, instead of the gym, I'll be driving over to my mechanic and dropping off my car. This is how 2012 is beginning for me. I hope it gets better from here, but we'll see.

I've been thinking more and more about attempting a triathlon. It's funny because while doing all this thinking I haven't been in the gym at all. You don't do a triathlon in your head so this is counterproductive. I need to either decide to do it and make the gym a higher priority or give up the idea and focus on something else.

It's freezing cold here today. It was 25 degrees Fahrenheit when I woke up this morning. Just 2 days ago it was 60 degrees outside. All day yesterday the wind was howling like mad and I knew a cold front must be coming in strong, but I never expected it to be quite this cold. Oh well, that's January for you. Winter is here.

I stole the following idea from LX in Texas ...

  1. I am not a fan of winter but oddly I am liking the mild one that Southern Ireland seems to give. We've only had a handful of freezing days, no snow, and we don't have constant freezing cold wind blowing in off the North Sea like we did in Scotland! At least you have a car ;)

  2. That 1st image is just gross...

Must be the season for car fuck ups... my crummydore's battery shit itself the other day, and now Mboy's magna has a transmission problem. It's going to the mechanic tomorrow to find out just how much it's gonna cost us.

All this happens when there is no money coming in. Great, huh?

  3. Good luck with the to triathalon or not decision!!! Hope your car is sorted.

I feel cold just reading your post: we had a few hot days in a row & today I've had to put on a cardy & am currently thinking about socks (its a top of 24C here)!!!. I don't think I'd survive your winter :0(

Ute - hope your car(s) are sorted soon too. Don't get me started on the additional expenses around this time of year.....

  4. LX, you got me listening to her songs over on YouTube with your post.

PaddedCellPrincess, somehow I had pictured an Irish winter as being far more harsh than we have here. Glad you are enjoying yours. Yeah, I'm glad that we don't have a constant cold wind off the sea here, either. That would be rough!

Ute, yeah, that first picture was the only Happy New Year photo that I had on my computer already so I reluctantly used it. Sorry to hear about your cars. I hope they are both cheap and easy to fix. I got mine back today. Cost me $98 to find out that Express Oil unplugged a sensor and then failed to plug it back in correctly. This is the second time they've cost me a visit to my mechanic for crap like that.

AlleyCat, sorry to make you feel cold, but it is truly freezing here right now. And it's extra shocking to go from a nice warm day to well below freezing overnight. We've dropped 40 degrees in less than 24 hours.

  5. Hmpf, cars...

I'm also having a hard time focusing on what's important, it kind of sucks.

Hope it all turns out well.

  6. It was 2 degrees F here yesterday but with the wind chill it felt much colder.

  7. Heartbroken, it's hard to refocus after a week or two off, especially when you don't especially want to. HA HA! Ah well, back to the grind.

MJ, you've definitely got me beat here in Alabama. 25 is almost Spring-like compared to the temperatures you are dealing with.

  8. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I could do a triathlon in my head, I would win too! I've been to the gym once, I'm still sulking about my mass weight stack on & I'm unsure what the heck to do about my body!!

  9. Fenstar de Luxe, I prefer the triathlons in my head, too. It makes me sweat less and my knees don't hurt and I don't have to worry about drowning. I do need to get a better bike if I'm really going to try one of these things. I don't really think it'll make me lose any weight, but I'd still like to accomplish this just one time. I think the weight loss goal has to be done with a better diet, but I really stink at dietary issues so I'm going to have to work on that one. If I succeed I'll let you know what I did. It's a new year. We're starting over.
